    Zero Profile Press-Fit Receptacles Keep Components Flush

    The ongoing pursuit to reduce product and/or package size presents challenges for making connections between PCB’s and devices. With zero profile receptacles, Mill-Max has eliminated any above board connector protrusion, enabling overall package height to be reduced. These receptacles have a precision machined, hexagon shaped flange which is pressed into the PCB Plated Through-Hole (PTH) until flush with the surface of the board. No soldering is required as the press-fit forms a gas-tight connection with a properly specified plated through hole. After installation, the zero profile PCB contacts enable a broad range of devices to be plugged in while minimizing overall interconnect height. They may be used on both traditional and rigid backed flex PCB’s.

    The smallest of the receptacles has a lead acceptance range of just .008” – .013” (,2 – ,33 mm) diameter while the largest accepts .045” – .065” (1,14 – 1,65 mm). All the receptacles have an open bottom to allow leads to pass through and are designed to have a minimal overall length; useful features for low profile board stacking applications. The open bottom eliminates the need for precise lead trimming.

    Each receptacle is precision-machined from brass alloy and is fitted with a highly reliable multi-finger beryllium copper contact. The standard plating for these receptacles is 10 u” gold on the shell and 30 u” gold on the contact to ensure the highest conductivity, corrosion resistance and durability. The gold plating on the shell also eliminates any issues with material skiving leading to bridging during press-fit into the PCB.

With the introduction of this series, we offer an industry leading option of focused intensity in a 25° degree viewing angle for brighter illumination in the desired region. In this product line, we are able to achieve up to 15 times increased intensity over traditional right angle LEDs.

    Narrower angles come with the benefit of eliminating light bleeding which further increases design appeal. This series is especially suited for light pipe applications due to a lower angle of incidence. Light rays can be reflected more efficiently and a brighter illuminated region results in stronger backlight and a more defined user interface. A full color spectrum is available for a wide range of applications.

    Electronic Products Magazine Selects CDE THA/THAS Thinpack Capacitors as Passives Product of The Year

    HA/THAS Series Thinpack electrolytic capacitors have been selected as Product of the Year winner for the Passives category. According to Electronic Products, “The annual awards, now in its 43rd year, recognizes outstanding products that represent any of the following qualities: a significant advancement in a technology or its application, an exceptionally innovative design, a substantial achievement in price/performance, improvements in design performance, and a potential for new product designs/opportunities.”

    Cornell Dubilier Electronics, (CDE) described the award-winning capacitors as a new development in aluminum electrolytic technology, with very high energy density, in thin-profile packages. The 85°C THA Series Thinpack capacitors are only 8.2 mm thick, while the 105°C THAS Series offers a 9-mm profile. This is comparable in height to surface mount and axial leaded electrolytics, but with much higher bulk-storage capability in a single package.
    The THA/THAS components offer very high energy density, up to 1.1 J/cc and up to 0.9 J/cc, respectively. The capacitance range for both series is 60 µF to 18,000 µF with a voltage range of 10 Vdc to 450 Vdc. Unlike traditional cylindrical electrolytics, the THA/THAS capacitors have a laser-welded case which eliminates the need for end-seal gaskets. This sealing method allows for much higher energy density over conventional electrolytics and extends life by preventing the loss of electrolyte.

    A single THA/THAS capacitor can replace an array of SMT, axial or radial aluminum electrolytics. That substitution can allow engineers to design smaller products with simplified assembly and higher reliability. In most applications, there are significant cost, weight, and space savings versus a comparably rated bank of SMT or axial aluminum electrolytic capacitors. This can allow a board space reduction of 70%, as well as improved overall circuit reliability, thanks to the lower component count and fewer connection points.

    The THA/THAS capacitors are a good fit for a variety of high-performance electronics, including tablets, laptops, instrumentation, commercial-grade LED driver modules, compact power supplies, drones and RPVs, set-top boxes, and 1U rack-mounted devices.

    MR1000 Series Detector Switch

    The MR1000 is a recessed magnetic or reed type switch which comes in a 2 piece design. One piece contains the magnet and the other piece contains the reed switch. The MR1000 series is classified as a detector switch as its intended use is where position detection or sensing is required, such as the opening or closing of a door or removal of an equipment panel.

    The MR1000 series is available in two contact gap options, 19.0mm (0.75”) or 25.0mm (1.00”). Both options come with 457.20mm (18” length) #22AWG wire leads to connect to a power source.

    The MR1000 provides 0.5A, 10VAC or 10VDC contact rating, 150mΩ contact resistance and SPDT N.O. contact arrangement.

    Ohmite is expanding it’s growing line of Heatsinks. The Ohmite PA/PV series heatsinks use forged pin construction. The thermal efficiency of a heatsink is determined by many variables. One of the main variables is the surface area. The pin fin construction of the PA/PV series produces more surface area than the standard extruded designs. In addition to the increased surface area the pin fin design also allows air flow to be entered from multiple directions. Standard extrusion heatsinks only allow airflow along the fins of the heatsink. With the ability to flow air in multiple directions the designer is released from restrictions typically associated with extrusion based heatsink designs.
